Bye-Bye Buckets

We found his owner!! (See my "Found Hound" post below.) Evidently he had a bath on Saturday night and escaped from his backyard when he was supposed to be drying off - thus the missing collar.

This works out really well because I was getting WAY TOO attached to him. We'd been calling him "Buckets" since he was a bit of a crybaby and cried buckets of tears wanting to be held and cuddled all the time. His actual name: Rebel. Not near as cute as "Buckets" in my opinion but whatev.

On Tuesday morning after we'd all but lost hope of finding his owners, I sent an email to a dozen or so friends in search of someone to take him in. We knew we couldn't keep him because we leave for China very soon and oh yeah did I mention that we currently live in a condo with a rather large German Shepherd who did not request a little brother? I attached the photos from my previous blog post to the email, and included a few details about him with both Tanner's and my cellphone numbers. We were inundated with phone calls from people all over the Coast offering to give him a home!! My faith in humanity has been completely restored and it made me feel so good to know that there are so many kindhearted people in the world. I even connected with a lady who "fosters" dogs like Buckets/Rebel on a regular basis while they're in search of a permanent family.

YAY Happy Ending!!

Thunder on the Bay

Spring always brings a ton of fun things to do on the Coast. Smokin' the Sound was a week ago and this past weekend we went to Thunder on the Bay at Keesler. We were complete dorks but had a fantastic time.

This is us inside the cockpit of one of the Hurricane Hunters.

Tanner strikes a pose in front of some sort of plane (please note that Tanner is the aviation expert in this relationship).

One of the stunt planes. They dropped parachuters from this kind. We didn't stay long enough to see the ThunderBirds, but had a great view of them while we walked the OS bridge Sunday.

On another note, we're planning a visit to Birmingham in June to see Rachael and go to City Stages. When Laura found out the Indigo Girls were playing she got extremely excited and started organizing her concert attire.

Found Hound

Sunday morning I got up early and went outside to get the newspaper and found this instead...

We posted "found" signs all over the neighborhood and contacted the local pounds but we haven't had any calls and he doesn't have a microchip. The vet told us this morning that he seems to be a pure bred basset hound who's been very well taken care of in the past. He can't have gone far (his stubby legs are VERY short), but we're starting to lose hope that we'll find his home. We've heard of horrible people who drop off unwanted pets [see: Shep the WonderDog], and we're afraid that may be the case here. Does anyone know of a good home that needs a sweet puppy?

He's about 8 months old, very well-behaved and past the worst of the 'puppy stage,' high-spirited but not hyper, extremely friendly and well-socialized with other dogs and people. He would be great with kids and just look at that face....

Please let me know if anyone is interested in an addition to their family. This sweet puppy needs nice parents and a good home!!
