We just got back from the first of what is sure to be many trips to Jackson in 2009. Each year during the first week of the session, the Coast Legislative Reception is held in Jackson, and I know I'm biased, but it is by far the BEST reception of the session every year.
It's actually where Tanner and I met just three years ago! I had just moved back to the Coast from Jackson the previous summer, then Katrina hit in August and Tanner lost his home in Biloxi and moved to Ocean Springs. At the Legislative Reception the following January, I met up with a couple of old friends who introduced me to Tanner. We hit it off, and discovered during the conversation that we were living literally right around the corner from each another in Ocean Springs. He called me on the ride back to the Coast the very next day. SIX months later, we finally went on our first date. Eight short months after that we got engaged, and the rest is history!!
It really is crazy that we'd never met previously; once we started dating we realized we had so many friends in common. We grew up less that 30 miles from one another, were taught to swim by the same person, bought Christmas trees at the same place for as long as either of us can remember, and I had never even heard of Tanner, or him me.
Okay, maybe it's not all that serendipitous, but I like to think that it is!!
